Isla Escape Cottage - Tulum
The town of Tulum is an energetic and spiritual place where visitors can experience traditional Mayan hospitality.
Tulum is located approximately 15 miles (25 kilometers) south of Akumal.
The beautiful beaches and the turquoise color of sea extend along the coast of Tulum and are ideal to be in solitude for the contemplation to enter communion with nature.
Just north of Tulum you will find one of the most famous attractions on the Riviera Maya; the Tulum Maya archeological site with it's grand Maya history and shows the defense walls that surround it at three sides of the complex. 'Tulum', in Mayan language means "Fence, hedge or wall".
The 'Tulum' is the largest ancient structure still standing along the coast of Riviera Maya, and forms the only walled archeological site found directly on the seaboard. Its remains extend six kilometers along the coast. The original name of the compound is believed to be 'Zama', which means "to Wake up the exit of the sun'.
Tulum once functioned as a small but important coastal port.
It was also a place of pilgrimage for the Maya
Besides the magic of the archeological sites in Tulum, visitors appreciate the beautiful pure white sand beaches and green palm trees.
